What is PMFME scheme?

Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme that aims to enhance the competitiveness of existing individual micro-enterprises in the unorganised segment of the food processing industry and to promote the formalisation of the sector and provide support to farmer producer organisations (FPO), self-help groups, and producer cooperatives along their entire value chain. With an outlay of Rs. 10,000 crores over a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25, the PMFME scheme envisions directly assisting the 200,000 micro food processing units by providing financial, technical, and business support for the upgradation of existing micro food processing enterprises.

How organic farming policy helping farmers?

Under the Gujarat governments organic farming policy, promoting organic farming practices in the state will spend about Rs 10 crores in a year. Gujarat is the 9th state after Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland to announce for organic farming policy. It helps farmers with certification, marketing and branding and focuses on the tribal areas. An organic cell will be set up under the agriculture department to implement the organic farming policy and a Gujarat organic Farming Committee will be formed to monitor the implementation of the policy for organic farming.

What is PMAGY ?

PMAGY or Pradhanmantri Adarsh Gram Yojana is a new scheme launched by the government for the integrated development of scheduled castes dominated villages in the country. There are about 44,000 villages in which the population of scheduled castes is above 50 per cent. Shri Mukherjee said that the new scheme PMAGY will be launched this year on a pilot basis in 1000 such villages. An amount of Rs.100 crore has been allocated for this Scheme, he added. Under this Scheme, each village would be able to avail gap funding of Rs.10 lakh over and above the allocations under Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation Schemes. On successful implementation of the pilot phase, the PMAGY would be extended in coming years.

What is Kisan Credit Scheme (KCC) ?

Kisan Credit Card Scheme (KCC) aims at providing adequate and timely support from the banking system to the farmers for their short-term credit needs for cultivation of crops. This mainly helps farmers for purchase of inputs during the cropping season. Credit card scheme proposed to introduce flexibility to the system and improve cost efficiency.

What is KVK ( Krishi Vigyan Kendra )?

KVK is a district-based scientific organisation dedicated to the development, refining, and distribution of technology. KVK is made up of trained multidisciplinary professionals who focus on agricultural issues that are significant to the local community. Front-line demonstrations, exposure visits, and other activities are organised by KVKs. Training programmes, demonstrations, field days, and other events are all available. Farmers should be given agricultural literature. Some KVKs do provide input assistance to farmers.

What is PKVY ( Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana ) ?

The Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), an initiative to promote organic farming in the country, was launched by the NDA government in 2015. According to the scheme, farmers will be encouraged to form groups or clusters and take to organic farming methods over large areas in the country. The aim is to form 10,000 clusters over the next three years and bring about five lakh acres of agricultural area under organic farming. The government also intends to cover the certification costs and promote organic farming through the use of traditional resources. To avail the scheme, each cluster or group must have 50 farmers willing to take up organic farming under the PKVY and possess a total area of at least 50 acres. Each farmer enrolling in the scheme will be provided INR 20,000 per acre by the government spread over three years time.
